o karen, you make good music

my little lady was reading a magazine with an article about karen o's other project, native korean rock. so we checked the myspace and found some dime pieces. with no official release for this project, i took it upon myself to rip these tracks from myspace and upload them on mediafire for the world to hear at super high 96kbs. you're welcome.
so, yeah... sorry about the bit rate. but something is better than nothing. right?
and uh, "OOO" and "rapt" are my favorite of the bunch.

native korean rock - demo

it has a rhino on the cover

i'm not sure if you guys have ever been to boomkat, but that's how i discovered this album for myself. it was on sale for i think $3 and the preview samples were pretty rad. when i got the cd in the mail and began listening, my excited face slowly turned into a sad face. then i got to track 5 and everything was good again. the sun came out, kids began playing outside, hands across america happened in my once sad heart and face. i knew everything was going to be OKAY.
moral: just skip to track five. one through four do absolutely nothing for me.

the wonder years

with a name like the fun years, one would think their music would be loud and "fun"... but no, the fun years manage to take fun out of anything you're doing. it's just going to make you want to listen and think. think about life and the things you forgot to do in the last year. not to say i don't like listening to them; quite the opposite, i REALLY enjoy listening to this album. A LOT.
if colleen used dusty records for her loops and collaborated with someone that likes the fuzzy moments of mogwai or some other post-rock band, the fun years would have someone trying to copy them. stay trill and listen to these folks.

thermal underwear

blissed out ambient music released in 2001 remastered and renovated from quarter-inch tape and reintroduced in 2008. kiln is one of my favorite electronic groups...EVER. 'thermals' is a bit different from their usual rhythmic drum patterns and drone laced albums, but from what i gathered, its because these tracks were made during their fiberforms years (which i'll up later). sit in your apartment, lay on the couch (if your cat is on the couch, kick it off and let your dog chill with you instead), stare at the ceiling, and fall asleep.

three pregnant women walk in a bar...

i would like to thank figlife (my #1 neighbor on last fm) for bringing Marc Leclair to my attention. 'Musique Pour 3 Femmes Enceintes' seems to have mastered the art of being intense and chill at the same time... it reminds me a bit of electric birds or efterklang at times... if they used found sounds instead of 57 instruments all at the same time.

so, its glitch, but relaxing glitch. but i feel weird saying its relaxing because it makes me feel tense too. i don't know how to feel anymore... thanks figlife. now i'm never going to know how i'm supposed to feel.

for real though, thank you for this album.

kira kira kira kira kira kira kira

yes, her first name and last name are the same. kira kira kira's (assuming her middle name is also kira) music makes you feel like a little girl going on a journey somewhere made of jello and jolly ranchers. you look in the mirror and you see yourself wearing a little poofy dress licking a lolly-pop. almost like you're in quantum leap or something. but the only mission ziggy tells you is to lick that lolly-pop and look cute.

sooooooo... kira kira sounds like mum (pre 'Go Go Smear The Poison Ivy') + lullatone. its actually pretty enjoyable.

there isn't much to say about a krautrock kranky record. let's see.... its on kranky.... and its krautrock. "You get the best of both worlds / Chill it out, take it slow / Then you rock out the show" - miley cyrus.

45's

last february my girlfriend bought me tickets to see dj shadow and cut chemist for my birthday. one of the gifts ever... but we missed the show because amtrak kept delaying the departure time and when we finally left, there was an 1 hour delay halfway there. so now all i have are unhappy memories and unused dj shadow + cutchemist live at parkwest tickets. cool!
this is isn't the chicago show, but i'm assuming its just as good since they actually made a dvd of it.
oh, they're using eight turntables and only 45's. dang!

dj shadow + cut chemist - hard sell

why the name change?

because some other group had the name. stupid.
anyway, resurrection is one of those albums (along with jazzmatazz and reachin' a new refution...) that got me into hip hop, but mainly got me into beats. no id dropped some gems on this album. you better axe somebody... or download.

low and medium places

i was going to write about how i don't really like high places a whole lot, but as i write this post... i've become a different man. i like high places. a song from their upcoming LP (on fat cat) changed my mind.

ob-la-di, ob-la-da

do you guys remember that show "life goes on"? during the opening credits the boy with downs, corky, sings with the rest of the family. he's not a good singer, but i liked hearing him sing. it just kind of made you feel good. well, vincent gallo is kind of like my corky without the feeling good part.

BoC 2.0

any other day i would have poured a glass of lemon haterade all over this, but not today... i actually like tycho's music quite a bit.
real talk though: its not always a good idea to show your influences as blatant as this... luckily, it works for tycho.

tycho - past is prologue

another crappy atmosphere record

just joking, "songs for luci" isn't some sensitive 30 something year old rapping about some girl named lucy. its Paz Lenchantin and she doesn't even rap. what?! yup, she plays folk songs with guitars, strings, and voice. and best of all, she has talent... unlike the other guy that makes songs for lucy.

...oh, and paz is the bassist for a perfect circle. YES!

paz lenchantin - songs for luci

... and i decided to post again even though i wasn't going to for a while. its just that i saw shilzzz over at goldenHymn posted, so i thought i would too. i mean, he IS a man-beast with the ladies... so i should probably do everything he does so that maybe one day i can be a man-beast with the ladies too.

19 April 2008

like a swift kick to your cat's ugly face

goldenHymn posted the new flying lotus (here). i think i'm in love with this album. just in case you aren't caught up with things that are cool, flying lotus is bad frickin ass. i can't wait till this comes out for real.
if you're wondering why i'm on mister lotus' weenis, here you go:

(jerry) springer

haha. not funny. :(

i bought this album because i saw a leaf label ad in a magazine and thought it looked interesting. at first i tried skipping through the tracks to find the "meat" of the songs. i found no meat. these are songs that have to soak in from beginning to end... kind of how albums should be. eff a single. WORD!

efterklang - springer

14 April 2008

they're greeeaaaaat

well, maybe not great, but good enough to share. super numeri sounds like a psychedelic jazz band that listened to 'bitches brew' while in their mother's womb. track one has a very droney intro, which is nice, but when it picks up, it takes you to a whole new world (pretend i just sang a 'whole new world' to you).

super numeri - great aviaries

DEMOS

Shilzzz from golden hymn is taking demos. when i talked to him earlier he seemed pretty excited about what he has planned.
from golden hymn:
So I'm interested to hear some demos. Been thinking about setting up an online distribution site or something for a tape label. Nothing big, but I want to at least get some demos coming in, and see what happens. If nothing else, I can always feature a good demo on here and get your bands name out. Email me = somanywheelchairs(at)gmail(dot)com, and let me know you're interested. I want hard copies though, like send me a tape or cdr or something.

more sleepy tunes

as you can probably tell, boards of canada are one of my favorites. there is just something about them that sets their electronic beats apart from everyone else. maybe its the organic quality of their sounds or maybe its in the hidden messages they put in the music. i don't know. this ep actually got me into listening to BoC. there are a few notes around the 5:05-5:07 mark that give me goosebumps. needles to say, this ep holds a special place in my heart, along with the band heart.... and "hell is for children", pat benatar.

boards of canada - in a beautiful place out in the country

for a rainy day

sometimes i don't feel like getting out of bed. i just want to lay here all day and listen to ambient music until i fall asleep again. so i'm kind of doing that today... until i have to get up, meet with shilzzz, then take my cousin to his futbol game. but i'm for real not getting up until i have to.
and this is what i'm listening to:

chihei hatakeyama - minima moralia
part 1
part 2
it's in two parts because of the high bit rate (i almost wrote but rate. that would have been stupid)

11 April 2008

getting tired

zero 7 put out a chill as efff mix that was the soundtrack to my art school career. that's all i have to say. good night. yeah!

(the artist is zero 7 for all the tracks because i was too lazy to fix it. the real artist's name is in the title of the song. sorry for my laziness)

zero 7 (various) - another late night

the opposite of a hard circle

former black dice drummer, hisham bharoocha, made an album. its called 'full bloom'. yup.
like most albums by drummers, 'full bloom' is full of percusion and almost completely goes without melody. doesn't sound very promising does it? that's what i thought. i was wrong. and then i was upset about being wrong. now i'm better

and i should thank matty g for getting me on soft circle. thank you matty g.

soft circle - full bloom

just in case darondo didn't work

lovage WILL get your girl... or guy in the mood. i played this at work today, and everyone started efffn like crazy. you should have seen it. oh man. oh freaking man.
just lying. that didn't happen at all. but i'm not lying about the mood getting of this album.
dan the automator + kid koala + mike patton + jennifer charles = raunchy

lovage - music to make love to your old lady by

who?

no... why? haha.
a lot of people like why? i do.
so here is a project yoni did with andy broder (aka The Fog). there is a background story to this project.... it was made in a basement in two weeks and some other stuff. if you plan on buying the cd, don't be alarmed by the red marks on the cover. it threw me off and i thought the guy at the record store was a turd and marked my cd case. but he wasn't a turd, he was a person.
anyway, i REALLY like track one. the rest is okay. YES!

hymie's basement - hymie's basement

10 April 2008

lesser knowns

yeah. here are scott herren's lesser known projects. delarosa and asora plays as a glitchier prefuse 73, a cloud mireya as an english savath y savalas, and piano overlord as a sample free prefuse 73. honestly, these aren't his best works but are worth listening to or trying to find for purchase if you're a prefuse 73 fan. so, peep game son (im not your dad). YEAH!
oh, and i don't have ahmad szabo... sorry young blood.

people started dancing...

so i had to stop the party. maybe broadcast will make you people stop the gyrating.

i know, everyone probably has this album, but i was listening to it yesterday and thought... what if there was a person that has never heard of broadcast?
for those of you that fall into the "i've never heard of broadcast" category, expect a chilled out trippy late 50's/early 60's sound. Whe-wha WORD!

broadcast - work and non work

so, there's an it's okay not to dance party going on at the blogspot today

let's get the party started with something bright... something NEON!
neon neon is boom bip and gruff rhys. if you know what either of them do, this is not what you would expect... at all.
track 4 is on point, i'm trying to start this party right, people. let's do this. YEAH!

neon neon - stainless style

07 April 2008

babies

if mum's 'Go Go Smear The Poison Ivy' had a baby with arcade fire.
sometimes i like this album, sometimes its just okay. just try to be in a good mood when you listen to this. and if you don't like it, its okay to be a hater. i'll suggest adding them on myspace and commenting on their page about how much they should stop making music and that you are glad you didn't waste your money buying this album... but you wish you wouldn't have wasted the time it took to download it.

hjaltalín - sleepdrunk seasons

i couldn't think of a clever title

this album reminds me of a drawing my little sister gave me. its full of heart and i loved it, but it looks like shit.
so i guess what i'm saying is dudley perkins really can't sing, but it doesn't really matter. the vocals are very endearing (especially when he hits the falsetto)... and the beats are some of madlib's best (whatever that means). YUP!

dudley perkins - a lil' light

06 April 2008

spring music

yeah, its spring music. beautiful, calm, and spring-y... like one of your favorite smells.
this album is one of those albums i consistently go back to when i just want to chill out and think about not being where i am (location-wise).

cibelle - the shine of electric dried leaves

wasn't this the name of moses' first album?

are you in the mood? do you want to be in the mood?....
here is your remedy.

darondo - let my people go

04 April 2008

guess what?

lullatone made a kick ass album. that's what.
do yourself a favor and listen to track three. she sings and raps about biz markie. COOL!

lullatone - the bedtime beat

is he french or something?

with a name like Benoit Pioulard, one might think so. but this guy speaks english and makes music in the u.s. of a... good for him.
'precis' is kind of a shoegaze folk experiment pulled off in a way only an american can. in other words, this album is excellent.
p.s. i'm only joking about americans. i love most americans, especially my mom, shilzzzzzzzz (from goldenhymn), my greasy but beautiful girlfriend, and me)

benoit pioulard - precis

31 March 2008

they kill soapscum

anit-pop consortium make some weird A hip hop music. this release was on the warp label, so you can assume its different. i saw them live in 2002 and they performed this whole album with an mpc, an EA-1, and a keyboard that may have been a moog source. most of the crowd wasn't feeling it, but i was... then i went out and bought the CD. YEAH!

anti-pop consortium - arrhythmia

29 March 2008

you guys seem to like the necks

so here's another one.
just so you aren't like "what the eff! its only one song." i should warn you that this is only one track long... but the one track is about 54 minutes. so uugh, double up uugh, uugh. oh, and i'm not digging this one as much as "chemist", but its still nice. NICE!

the necks - drive by

28 March 2008

sci fi

he's kind of out there in the whole sample based music genre. some say he's like dj shadow, i kind of disagree. not everyone that samples is like dj shadow. i guess what sets science fiction apart is that he sings and plays guitar on top of the sample. genre-wise, 'walls don't exist' plays like a hip hop down and uptempo jazz lounge from a scary dream. YEAH!

science fiction - walls don't exist

freak a leak II

so, the notwist have a new album coming out in june. its not called The Devil, You + Me. and you can't download it just by clicking on the what album title isn't.................. ............ ................ .. .......................... ..................... ................................ ................. ................. ........... ........ .............. ............... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ........ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

yes you can NOW YEAH!

remember when...

caribou went by manitoba? times were easier then. caribou didn't have two names and diddy was still puff daddy.
anyway... this is one of caribou's earlier albums. and to sum it up, it's pretty nice.
NICE!

manitoba - start breaking my heart

24 March 2008

soooouuuullllmates

the title is supposed to read like sooouuultrain. so you should read it like how the guy says it in the beginning of soultrain.

anyway...this was one of those albums i bought because of the 30 second samples you can listen to at a big bookstore. it has mood, nice drums, and some nice spacey jazz and psychedelic samples blended to make an album for any fan of what the kids from the 90's would call trip hop.
from what i read, 'soulmates' was not intended to be an album. elvin estrela, nobody, used this collection of beats to sell to MCs in LA to make some money.... but it sounds like an album to me.
one warning: the tracks with rappers are not the best of the bunch.

nobody - soulmates

do you speak catalan?

guillermo s. herren and eva puyeulo muns made some lovely tunes that should be shared. mister herren is better known as prefuse 73. so you might recognize a glimpse of that hip hop glitchyness heaven in this, his lesser known project, savath y savalas. but this music is much more calm and very much on the jazz and acoustic side. oh, and the lyrics are in catalan and spanish. what sucka? que onda, chupon?

savath y savalas - apropa't

oh, and if you guys like this, i'll post the rest of the albums.

he's dead and he's a texan

and he makes ambient music that punches teeth in. its like metal ambient music.... rrraaaahhhhh!!! but quiet.
none of that is true. its just really nice ambient music and good for people to listen to for overall health and balance. (i'm lying again about the health and balance).

the dead texan -
the dead texan

23 March 2008

who's necks?

well, i'll tell you. they're three australian jazz musicians that made an incredible album called 'chemist'.
'chemist' plays like 'endtroducing' + Godspeed You! Black Emperor + tortoise. so i guess it would be like post-rock jazz.... think weather report, but modern and way more tolerable. WORD!

necks - chemist

i win

the meanest man contest. ch-check the beats. this guy has got the know on how to sample drums like a MANG (i'm a mexican-o and i'm supposed to say things like mang).

meanest man contest - merit

p.s. i couldn't find my fire wire for my hard drive so i have not been able to upload side b of the boards of canada tapes....well, today i finally found it in the trunk of my car. with that said... i'll have it upped probably wednesday. sorry for the delay.

19 March 2008

celebration post II

when i heard about celebration putting out another album i had the feeling of what it was like having a roni. so very sweet.

celebration - the modern tribe

celebration

is like yeah yeah yeahs plus TV on the radio. rad!
i actually bought this without knowing anything about the band. listened to 30 seconds of track one and thought it was garbage. but track 2 through the rest of the album is wonderfulness.
moral of the story: skip track 1.. yuk

celebration - celebration

little plastic pilots

i wonder if little plastic pilots listens to boards of canada???? hmmmmm.
so.... if you like BoC, you’ll probably enjoy little plastic pilots.... then you’ll want to go back and listen to boards of canada and say something like "wow! little plastic pilots sounds a lot like boards of canada."

little plastic pilots - little plastic pilots

Department of Eagles

i didn't know this until yesterday, but Daniel Rossen (grizzly bear) and college roommate, Fred Nicolaus, have a band together... and it also has an animal in the name.
their debut, 'the cold nose', was originally released in 1995, then released again last year with more songs. i only have the 1995 release... but i do have a few recent demo songs that should start some hype for their next release.

evangelicals

josh jones (of evangelicals) described 'The Evening Descends' like a meeting between marvin gaye and the rocky horror picture show.
my description: if evangelicals was a smoothie, it would taste like celebration, blonde redhead, and pears.
